  • POSITION SUMMARY
    • The diagnostic medical sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    • Licenses and Certifications Required
      • ARRT, RDMS or ARDMS registered or registry pending.
      • NDMIRTBE licensed
    • Educational Requirements
      • R.D.M.S., R.D.C.S., RVT or ARRT Registered Technologist.
      • Current compliance and continuing medical education (CME) requirements.
    • Experience Requirements
      • Working knowledge of ultrasound procedures.
    • Special Skills or Training Requirements
      • Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or Cardiovascular Technology program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is preferred.
      • Utilizes tele-radiology equipment as needed.
      • Utilizes hospital information system and radiology information system as required for charges and proper patient status.
      • Performs Ultrasound studies by independently scanning patient part as ordered.
      • Provides Radiologist with Technologist interpretation.
      • Verbal ability.
      • Manual dexterity.
      • Spatial perception.
      • Numerical ability.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
      • Ability to adapt and learn new protocols on new equipment as purchased.
      • Other skills as cross-training as needed to be defined by Department Director.
