The Truck Driver is responsible for safety, securement and transportation of material to customers.



The Truck Driver reports directly to Transportation Coordinator.



  1. Promoting safety, quality, operations performance and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  2. Ensure material loaded on trailer is distributed accordingly for safe securement.
  3. Securing material/load on trailer with Smith Pipe & Steel Safety Program, State and Federal D.O.T. regulations.
  4. Delivery of Material to customer locating in a safe, timely and professional manner.
  5. Participate in safety meetings and training sessions as required by company policy and management.
  6. Follow all company policies in regard to safety and operation of equipment.


To operate the Smith Pipe & Steel Vehicle in a safe, courteous, professional manner


  1. Conduct vehicle pre, post and inter-trip inspections according to policies and regulations.
  2. Accurately account for material loaded on trailer is correct according to customer load list, BOL and manifest.
  3. Use chains and binders to secure load according to Company, State and Federal load securement regulations.
  4. Document and maintain accurate duties in PeopleNet logging system.
  5. Advise supervision of any load discrepancies.
  6. Perform other related duties or assignments and work additional and/or different hours as determined or requirement by supervision.



  1. Ability to prioritize and manage job task in effective and timely manner
  2. Resolve changes and errors of material loaded for delivery effectively and promptly within established time limits.
  3. Achieve daily deliveries promptly using the most direct and efficient route with safety a priority



  1. Possess a current class A C.D.L. and D.O.T. physical
  2. 2-5 years of previous experience driving tractor trailer flatbed loads.
  3. Ability to communicate both verbally and written in English
  4. Ability to perform basic math functions and read tape measure.
