Description

The Shipping, Receiving and Mailroom Clerk II serves as a lead clerk in the daily mail room operations. Processes all incoming and outgoing mail and packages and other materials, reconciles postal accounts, monitors dock and processes and maintains record of outgoing recycling materials.

DUTIES

  • Processes mail/packages by receiving, sorting, delivering, tracking and returning
  • Reconciles university's express and USPS permit mail accounts and preparing the documentation to charge departments' cost centers and reconciles monthly spoil postage for refund
  • Monitors incoming vendors and dock parking to ensure authorized parking and provides customer service
  • Prepares recycling materials by gathering, sorting, inspecting and arranging pick-ups


MARGINAL DUTIES

  • Drives or operates University vehicles
  • Performs all duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Reports: Supervises part-time employees
Delegation of Work: Assigns work of part-time employees
Supervision Given: Trains and provides feedback on performance, and adjust work hours if applicable

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of United States Postal Service Operations and understanding of mail products
  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

 

Skills:

  • Conflict resolutions skills
  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

 

Abilities:

  • Ability to solve problems
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community


WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Working conditions are normally interior area within a dock environment and office. Frequently working in dock area

 

Physical Demands: Ability to lift, carry and pull up to 50 pounds; ability to push up to 10 pounds; ability to climb, stoop and crouch, reach, handle, speak, hear and see; 10% of time spent sitting, 45% of time standing, 45% of time walking

This position is exposed to the weather elements such as cold/heat/noise/dust/wet/dry conditions; Minimal exposure to hazards

Position responsible for operating the following machines: delivery vehicles, postage metered machine, folding machine, baler and electric pallet jacks
