Job Title: Senior Mechatronics Engineer

JobID: 12540-119077#8359067

Location: Wilton, CT, 06897, USA

Description: ## Introduction

ASML brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics. Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Wilton, CT, Chandler, AZ and San Jose, CA.

## Job Mission

The Optical Sensors & Metrology Development Group for ASML in Wilton CT is seeking a well-rounded engineer with direct experience in mechatronic engineering. The optical modules developed for ASML’s products include numerous motion devices to accurately position optics or other devices, including some high-speed and sub-micron positioning accuracy.

This position is responsible for the development of precision motion assemblies used to position optics to micron / sub-micron precision. The candidate will be involved with deriving requirements, developing concepts, analyzing options, driving decisions, documenting system functionality, and planning and performing tests to verify performance. This position will require skills in mechatronics, opto-mechanics, mechanical mounting, positioning, dynamic analysis, passive and active damping, systems engineering, and advanced simulation skills, all specific to the optical lithography or metrology equipment used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry.

## Job Description

The main focus of this position will be:

* Develop the mechatronic modules or sub-assemblies used for high-precision positioning of optical elements in a sensing system when given higher level module or sub-system requirements;
* Derive lower level requirements and designs for mounted optics and mechatronic positioning and measurement devices;
* Generate models or simulations to analyze expected mechatronics performance, and lead a multi-disciplinary team to an optimal solution;
* Design and implement servo control systems;
* Some travel required (~ 15%) to Europe, Asia, and within the US can be expected.

## Education

* Minimum MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on mechatronic systems (preferred) / mechanics / kinematics / dynamics /opto-mechanics is required or equivalent experience.
* A second degree in physics, mathematics, or other engineering disciplines is highly desirable.

## Experience

Zero to two years of industry experience in mechatronics / opto-mechanical development:

* Experience in system design and analysis is required.
* Direct experience in the design and test of mechatronic systems preferably in the area of optical element positioning in precision optical equipment;
* Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment, with suppliers and co-developers, to ensure timely realization of competitive, high precision, complex components and assemblies;
* Experience in the following areas is required: Servo design / tuning for closed loop servo control, actuator design / selection, kinematics, dynamics, MATLAB / Simulink;
* Experience in the following areas is a plus: CAD, thermal analysis, opto-mechanical mounting, adhesives, materials, FEA or other modeling tools, LabVIEW

## Personal skills

Candidate must:

* Have strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to achieving results on time;
* Be able to identify primary technical needs from complex issues and derive needed requirements;
* Be a demonstrated “team player” with strong interpersonal skills and a quality orientation;
* Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team, take on added responsibility as required, follow through, and keep multiple simultaneous assignments on schedule;
* Be able to quickly acquire technical knowledge from documentation and on-the-job training, and be capable of thoroughly investigating technical issues (analytically and hands-on in a lab or cleanroom environment);
* Be willing to own the integrated systems performance, and support the entire product life-cycle (development through sustaining engineering).

## Context of the position

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
* The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus.
* The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
* May require travel dependent on company needs.
* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
* Can work under deadlines.
* The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level.
* Must be able to read and interpret data, information, and documents.
* Can observe and respond to people and situations and interact with others encountered in the course of work.
* Can learn and apply new information or skills.
