Working as part of Ovum’s forecasting and data analysis team, the primary role of the Senior Financial Research Analyst is to provide high quality analysis of financial metrics for the telecoms & media industries. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of how to interpret and evaluate financial performance and have a track record of being able to provide consistent, comparable, valid and timely information to a variety of stakeholders. Strong analytical, statistical, research and project management skills are required. In addition, the analyst will be expected to demonstrate initiative and a flexible yet organised approach to providing analysis across a range of different industry segments and subject areas in response to changing market dynamics.


For this role candidates will be expected to:


  • Be the primary point of contact for all of Ovum’s financial data analysis
  • Ensure that Ovum’s financial data sets are well researched, analysed and presented
  • Work alongside the forecast team in the production of financial metric forecasts
  • Provide regular updates on the financial performance of relevant markets
  • Identify, analyse and communicate variations in trends
  • Contribute to bespoke research projects
  • Identify new opportunities to improve and expand our financial analysis deliverables
  • Build strong relationships with our sales teams to help deliver commercial success


Key Skills and Competencies:




  • Financial or economic related degree (2:1 or higher)
  • Business & financial data analysis
  • Experience of analysing and commenting on corporate financial reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong understanding of key performance indicators and their role in business strategy
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with other divisions/analysts
  • Proficient at creating and delivering presentations to clients
  • Highly numerate with a strong working knowledge of statistics
  • An understanding and awareness of the influence of economic factors on market development
  • Strong commercial acumen to identify and exploit new revenue opportunities




  • Knowledge of the telecoms and media industries
  • Highly literate to provide clear and concise written documents on key factors such as assumptions and methodologies
  • Market forecasting techniques
  • Ability to supervise others
  • Masters degree or other relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst)
  • Management accounting experience
