Role Summary:This is an exciting position where the Automation Engineer leads and assist in the development of process automation for manufacturing equipment used in the production of sera, liquid & dry powder media.

Essential Responsibilities:

+ The design, build, programming, installation, commissioning and validation of new control systems, along with maintaining and upgrading existing PLC control systems e.g. Allen Bradley and Siemens.

+ Working as a team/project leader or a supporting member on projects

+ Maintaining and upgrading the facility infrastructure and utilities - water systems, HVAC, steam, etc.

+ Install and maintain electrical control systems, motors, VFDs, valves and instrumentation.

+ Connect devices and sensors to data collection systems, network interfaces, historian databases, network servers and systems.

+ Develop and qualify processes to improve product quality by identifying manufacturing waste and quality issues.

+ Develop process and workstation designs to reduce cycle time and support the lean manufacturing initiative.

+ Ensure regulatory compliance through Qualification and Validation of systems.

+ Determine process risks and identify systems that require qualification, including development of plans and specifications, development and execution of protocols, and reporting results.

+ Providing safe processes that comply with all local and federal regulations. Assure that corrective action is taken to resolve observed safety concerns in all areas.

+ Working with Operations and Maintenance Teams to resolve manufacturing and quality problems related to methods, processes, tooling, equipment and product design.

+ Developing planned maintenance routines on equipment and systems

+ Providing technical leadership of automation systems for the Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams.

+ Provide leadership, coaching and drive lean thinking and expectations to the Automation team.

+ Develop standards and specifications for implementing new systems, software and hardware.

+ Develop systems to visualize data, report trending, and activate action/alert signals.


+ B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or related technical degree; OR an Associates Degree and a minimum of 3 years experience; or High School diploma with a minimum of 7 years of experience in production, engineering or troubleshooting of PC/server based systems

+ Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation/controls engineering

+ Programming skills: familiar with Ladder logic, Function Block, STL, Boolean logic and higher-level programming languages such as Visual Basic

+ Experience with PLC control systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.)

+ Experience with automation networks: Device Net, Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet IP

+ Experience with Electric Motor Control/Drive Configuration

+ Familiar with NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and OSHA safety requirements

+ Familiar with LAN networking, switches, data cabling, and topology

Desired Characteristics:

+ B.S. Degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or Software Engineering

+ Demonstrated ability to identify ; implement best practices

+ Demonstrated ability to perform with high levels of ambiguity

+ Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical and planning skills

+ ISA-5.1 Instrumentation Symbols and Identification

+ ISA-S88 Batch Control

+ NEMA and IEC schematic diagrams

+ Logix500/5000 Programming

+ FactoryTalk View ME/SE

+ Project Experience

+ ISO-13489 - Machine Safety
