Department Name: D0044 Police



The Security Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty and staff as a uniformed presence. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols, monitors behavior, secures buildings and property, investigates disturbances, maintains order and enforces regulations.



  1. Patrols assigned area to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
  2. Responds to emergency situations
  3. Inspects building and facilities including doors, windows, gates and lighting to ensure security
  4. Reports disorderly or suspicious behavior of persons on campus and attempts to control the situation
  5. Responds to questions and calls from people in the patrol area
  6. Adheres to internal controls
  7. Prepares incident reports to the department and/or law enforcement agencies as appropriate
  8. Assists police officers
  9. Acts as a deterrent to criminal activity

  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position




  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills




  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to see objects in detail under various conditions, including but not limited, to at night, up close, far away, and peripherally with ability to focus vision




Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment > 8 hours; lobby customer service island or reception area> 8 hours; technology server room > 8 hours; classroom, training room, auditorium> 8 hours; outdoor areas 4 to 6 hours.


Physical Demands: Work involves considerable exposure (several times a week for approximately 2 to 4 hours at a time) to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc. Position requires moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, or standing and/or walking for long periods of time (more than 4 hours per day).


Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions, and may include the use of protective gear.
