Overview

 

Teva Pharmaceuticals' Specialty Medicine Discovery and Product Development organization is seeking a Scientist II to join our Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology team at our West Chester, PA R&D site. 

 

The Scientitst II will be a recognized expert in a relevant area of biochemistry or cell biology. Experience in molecular target-based pharmaceutical research is essential and experience in the CNS therapeutic area is advantageous. In this laboratory-based position, the scientist will be responsible for the development, validation and routine implementation of biochemical assays (in both molecular target-based and cellular systems) in support of lead identification and lead optimization efforts. This position requires demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects, either through direct supervision of reports or in collaboration with project team management. This scientist may serve as a biology team leader of a project team. This position requires initiative, creativity and collaborative skill. This scientist may be responsible for supervision of Ph.D. and associate level scientists, and prior supervisory responsibility is important. Ability to work well in a team environment is required. This individual has a record of accomplishment of goals in a pharmaceutical setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintains proficiency in the development and implementation of biochemical laboratory procedures needed to accomplish specific research objectives. Provides the link between the bench scientist and upper level management.

• Performs independent bench research.

• Maintains expert knowledge of “state of the art” technologies and encourages their aggressive implementation. Recommends, directs development of, or participates in new technologies, exploratory research projects or formal research programs.

• Participates in interdisciplinary project teams as a key technical representative and may serve as a biology team leader.

• Manages interactions with outside collaborators, whether academic or commercial, to achieve internal research objectives.

• Responsible for formal oral and written reporting on status of current efforts.

• Obtains competitive intelligence and assesses research progress through published reports and attendance at national meetings.

• Participates in company-wide committees when requested (e.g. biological safety; radiation safety, etc).

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 7-10 years combined post-doctoral academic or pharmaceutical experience in biochemistry. A minimum of 5 years pharmaceutical experience in biochemistry required.
• Prior experience in the CNS therapeutic area is advantageous.
• Demonstrated expertise in biochemistry of isolated molecular targets and/or cellular systems as applied in a drug discovery setting.
• Expertise in evaluation of mechanism of action of drug candidates.
• Proven laboratory and problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Ability to work productively with laboratory automation systems, as well as with contemporary data analysis and data management software.
• Ability to function effectively on interdisciplinary drug discovery teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
