Summary

Assists in the sell and purchase of goods for wholesalers or manufacturers to businesses or groups or individuals. Work requires substantial knowledge of items sold.

Tasks

  • Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and credit terms.
  • Estimate or quote prices, credit or contract terms and delivery dates.
  • Consult with clients after sales or contract signing to resolve problems and to provide ongoing support
  • Provide customers with product samples and catalogs.
  • Arrange and direct delivery and installation of products.
  • Compile information and records to draw up purchase orders for procurement of materials and services.
  • Perform purchases of services for outside processing, with a limited dollar amount, when necessary.
  • Track the status of requisitions, contracts, and orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge

  • Clerical- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as MS applications, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Computers and Electronics- Knowledge of electronic equipment, such as calculator, fax machines, copiers and computer hardware, including company ERP system.
  • Customer and Personal Service- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • English Language- Knowledge of the structures and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Mathematics- Knowledge of arithmetic to calculate in all units of measures.
  • Production and Processing- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Sales- Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.

Experience

  • Education: High School dimploma or equivalent. Related on-the-job experience, or at the Managers discretion
  • Job Training: Usually needs one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.
  • Overall Experience: Previous work-related skill, knowledge, or 3 years' experience in the metals industry is preferred.
