Position Purpose

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Associate position in Molecular and Synthetic Biology at Dartmouth. The postdoc will work directly with the PI, Prof. Rahul Sarpeshkar, on implementing analog and feedback circuits in E. coli, S. cerevisae, or mammalian cells. Examples are in NATURE (doi: 10.1038/nature12148). The circuits will be applied for advanced molecular sensing, computation, feedback control of living cells, cancer immunotherapy, and electromicrobiology applications.



Skills & Knowledge

Skills that are essential include cell culture, cloning, plasmid and DNA assembly, microscopy, measurement of gene and protein expression, and other fundamental skills of molecular biology. Preference will be given to candidates who also have a demonstrated background in physics, engineering, computer science, or in a multi-disciplinary quantitative approach. Candidates with BioMEMs, microbial fuel cell, control systems, microfluidics, instrumentation, and analog circuit design experience will be given additional preference. Excellent writing and communication skills in English are required. The candidate should be highly motivated, creative, and excited by the possibility of engineering biological circuits with rigorous quantitative approaches that are multidisciplinary.



Minimum Experience

Candidates with BioMEMs, microbial fuel cell, control systems, microfluidics, instrumentation, and analog circuit design experience will be given preference.



Minimum Education

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who has a PhD, or is in the final stages of obtaining, a PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering or a related field.
