Position Summary

The Policy and Technology Analyst (hereinafter referred to as “The Analyst”) performs policy/advice development related duties by providing administrative support to the RSSAC, RSSAC Caucus, SSAC, and RZERC as directed by the RSSAC, SSAC and RZERC Leadership and ICANN management. In addition, the Analyst will engage in supporting activities that aid in the development of technical and policy publications that advance ICANN's mission of preserving the security, stability and interoperability of the Domain Name System (DNS), and the operation and evolution of the DNS root server system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the RZERC, RSSAC and SSAC advisory development activities by managing working groups , drafting background papers, preparing and editing working group agendas, working documents and presentations, capturing and following up on action items and group deliverables , and serving as the editor for advisories at the request of the working group.
  • Perform information gathering in support of RSSAC, SSAC and RZERC study areas, including detailed information on sophisticated technical and policy questions -- in particular issues related to the Domain Name System (DNS) and root server system.
  • Prepare informational documents and presentations for RSSAC, RZERC, SSAC and/or ICANN Senior Staff on complex technical and policy matters.
  • Prepare and deliver verbal and written presentations on complex technical and policy topics to internal and external audiences. Describe technical and policy issues facing ICANN clearly and with precision .
  • Organizing teleconferences with service providers and ensuring smooth operation of calls.
  • Working with community members using online tools to schedule telephonic meetings.
  • Management of post-call activities including: posting of minutes, agendas, transcripts and recordings of meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested in support of policy development support requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to write substantive reports/summaries suitable for technical or non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of multi-stakeholder policy development.
  • Proven ability to prepare detailed reports, presentations and briefings to internal and external audiences on technical issues, including the ability to present complex concepts understandably to a diverse audience.
  • Ability to work with highly diverse workforce.
  • Expert computer skills including MS Office, online collaboration tools, and publication software
  • Prior international experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines in fast-paced stressful and high-pressure environment.
  • Organization of teleconferences with service providers, including scheduling calls, requesting interpretation and dial-outs to community members and carrying out the roll call during community calls.
  • Management of post-call activities including: posting of minutes, agendas, transcripts and recordings of meetings.
  • Creation of community wiki agenda pages and other pages as needed.
  • Assisting in the management of mailing lists.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor degree required, advanced degree in technical writing, computer science, electrical engineering, information science, political science, or public policy preferred.
  • Minimum two years of experience.
  • Proven ability to write clearly and concisely on complex technical subjects.
