  • The project management manager is accountable for recruiting, developing, and retaining appropriately qualified staff, for recommending and implementing project staffing decisions and for leading staff toward Project Management vision/goals.
  • Lead performance management processes for reporting team members including career development; provide input into merit/compensation, talent assessment and succession planning discussions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with COO/PTL within the assigned business unit(s)/therapeutic area(s).
  • Understand and anticipate needs of business unit/therapeutic area related to resourcing/staffing and required capabilities.
  • Responsible for managing staff budget and headcount.
  • Facilitate resourcing decisions including recruiting and hiring activities; work closely with team and functional management to ensure group is fully and appropriately resourced according to staffing strategies and portfolio priorities.
  • Hold individuals accountable for their performance management objectives; ensure direct reports adhere to current policies and procedures and training requirements; promote application and consistency in using approved processes that will aid in meeting departmental objectives.
  • Ensure performance and development goals are in place for reporting staff members; contribute to staff development through coaching, mentoring, shared learning, and feedback; ensure staff skill development aligns with transformation toward future state functional and business objectives.
  • Ensure/oversee that onboarding materials are contemporary and are administered with staff new to the area; ensure that staff members have the information they need to do their jobs; ensure staff utilizes central knowledge databases, peer coaching and subject matter experts for best practices and shared learning.
  • Drive reviews and updates of curriculum maps and job descriptions as appropriate.
  • Model leadership behaviors and establish an environment where performance and business results are valued and where individuals are learning and growing developmentally.

Functional Leadership Responsibilities
  • Lead and provide subject matter expertise for functional processes and projects with the intent of improving and evolving LRL Project Management current and future state goals, including partnering with the Project Management Office (PMO) and the Resource Modeling & Forecasting (RMF) Team in advancing functional work and improving processes.
  • Identify, propose, and lead solutions for a range of organizational and operational problems and technical challenges. Ensure project management is appropriately represented and involved in cross-functional process improvement projects.
  • Ensure effective shared learning across the function and across the business as well as application of shared learning and standard methodologies
  • Understand customer requirements as well as external benchmarking information in order to optimize project management support being provided and increase value to projects/portfolio
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with business partners and leadership as well as areas that support project management (i.e. HR); act as communication interface with these areas regarding activities, priorities, and feedback

  • Bachelor's, preferably in a health-related, scientific or engineering field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience with basic project management tools and processes.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Prior knowledge and/or practical experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or drug development
  • Well-grounded in business fundamentals with the ability to maintain a corporate view of the portfolio
  • Practical experience leading a team of people to deliver on an objective
  • Strong focus on customer and business results
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; able to communicate clearly and succinctly with team members and leadership
  • Strong problem-solving skills; able to anticipate and recognize problems, diagnose root causes and take corrective action to prevent recurrence within the team
  • Excellent self-management and organizational skills; able to manage workload, set personal and team priorities and adjust as needed
  • Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills; able to develop effective collaboration between team members with diverse interpersonal styles; able to deliver effective coaching and feedback

  • Proven ability to adjust quickly and effectively to frequent change and altered priorities
  • Lead through transformation
  • Higher degrees or certifications (e.g. MS., MBA, Masters in Project Management or PMP)
