Responsibilities

The Network/Infrastructure Engineer - Advanced (NE) provides subject matter expertise for a CLASSIFIED network hosted at the Defense Heath Agency Headquarters (DHHQ) in Falls Church, Virginia. They are responsible for the overall architecture, administration, maintenance, and break/fix activities for the network and computing infrastructure.

The NE is responsible for developing, engineering, deploying and supporting comprehensive solutions based on the client's unique requirements and problems as they relate to network and infrastructure services. They are also responsible for identifying opportunities for the automation of tasks, processes, or entire solutions and acting on them, as well as identifying any opportunities for improvement in the environment.

Additionally, the NE works with the Cybersecurity team ensuring that the network and infrastructure is documented, maintained, and ready for risk assessment as part of a system accreditation process (i.e. RMF, C&A).

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and perform engineering, monitoring, maintenance and upgrades (e.g. firmware, technical refresh, etc.) to the network and computing infrastructure.
  • Participate in or lead troubleshooting and incident resolution of complex high severity incidents.
  • Provide accurate and timely resolution on all supported incidents and issues.
  • On-call availability and provide after-hours support (as needed).
  • Accurately log/ticket, track, and resolve incidents using the ITSM system (i.e. Remedy).
  • Provide a high level of professionalism and customer service.
  • Provide updates to management and project leadership of ongoing projects and high priority issues.
  • Develop and maintain network and infrastructure documentation in support of accreditation requirements (e.g. network diagrams, CONOPS, etc.).
  • Investigate and propose solutions for development and customer needs which improve network reliability, continuity, and maintainability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Practical experience in an IP-based network environment as a network engineer; solid understanding of layers 1-4 of the OSI model.
  • Technical competency of network and security concepts, best practices, and technologies including: IPSec/cryptographic keys, Radius servers, SSL, DNS, DHCP, configuration of VLAN interfaces, routing and switching.
  • Demonstrated competency in configuring, updating, provisioning, and troubleshooting Juniper routing and switching equipment and Infoblox DNS/DHCP/NTP/IPAM network based appliances.
  • Strong knowledge of HPE C7000 blade, Nexus 5Ks, and Cisco 1000vs.
  • Experience with NetApp (iSCSI, NFS, FCoE) or similar storage environments and alignment with best practices.
  • Experience with upgrading firmware of HPE C7000 blade, Brocade, and Juniper switches in a virtual environment; familiarity with Cisco UCS.
  • Advanced network troubleshooting and experience in resolving complex network problems utilizing network tools (i.e. Wireshark).
  • Relevant network certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, etc.) (preferred).
  • Familiar with network management and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds (preferred).
  • Proficient with various security assessment/hardening tools (STIG, SCAP, checklists, Nessus, etc.).
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
  • Project management skills for setting priorities and meeting project deadlines.
  • Proficient in Visio diagram software and network documentation development.
  • Ability to understand and apply knowledge of current industry standard systems architectures.
  • Strong critical thinking skills that facilitate timely problem-solving.
  • Other desired experience: Windows Desktop (Tier 2-3), System Administration, SCCM/patch management, CommVault, Citrix XenDesktop.

Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related technical field (High School Diploma and equivalent technical experience and certifications may be used in lieu of BS Degree).
  • 8+ years experience in a technical IT role; 13+ years without BS Degree.
  • 6+ years as a network engineer or architect.
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance (or above).
  • Have or obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification (e.g. Security + CE, CISSP, etc.) within three months of beginning position.
  • Government contract requires person possess proof of U.S. citizenship.
