SAIC has openings for qualified candidates to work on an exciting project in the Charleston South Carolina office. The selected candidate will lead a team of test engineers and other engineering professionals performing system and software tests in the design, development and delivery of an electronic system and capability for a special customer. A proven background in mission critical systems including mission planning, mission execution and mission analysis is required to lead this team. Experience in weapon systems development and deployment is a solid differentiator; working knowledge and understanding of computer/network security is required. The Lead System Test Engineer will be responsible for test design, development and execution for a major system in a system-of-systems solution.

Responsibilities:
Leading the test engineering team performing tests of system, software and signal analysis, design, development and system fielding to satisfy the customer’s needs. This will entail the vision, guidance and leadership skills necessary to conceive the initial test to address design, development of system requirements and subsequent test plans for performance requirements for analysis, system engineering, software engineering, development of software systems utilizing modern programming languages. A strong system and software development knowledge in a secure environment is a must along with a good working knowledge of black box or modular engineering methodologies.
This is a significant position in a high profile and technically challenging program for which you would be responsible for the planning and execution of testing of design, development and delivery of a viable solution to the customer. As a leader working in a team environment as well as individually, the successful candidate will be responsible for the understanding and proper analysis, development, evolution, implementation, and documentation of the entire enterprise and the execution of the overall testing plans, procedures and execution of system analysis, development and specification by working with other team members to ensure completeness and robustness of the entire system.

Specific duties include:
- Provide technical and team leadership to systematically design, develop, prototype, test and deploy a major system and capability to an important customer.
- Work with the Chief Engineer to ensure proper integration of system and capability to achieve desired effects.
- Deliver, on time and on budget, a fully integrated system and software capability to achieve the designed functional capabilities.
- Design, development, testing and fielding of a viable system
- Working with Chief Engineer and customer to develop tests of system design(s)
- Develop, staff and lead engineering and software test teams for program execution
- Provide thought leadership and day-to-day engineering leadership to development team
- Understand requirements and specifications for hardware and software.
- Understand the architecture and interactions of all back-end components
- Devising new methods of testing the system effectively
- Ability to understand what data is most effective to test the system
- Writing and executing effective functional test, carrying out exploratory (unscripted) testing where appropriate
- Supporting test automation where appropriately; mainly Selenium/Ruby
- Supporting and actively working towards test driven development (TDD)
- Contribute to discussions on test process and procedural improvements
- Raising descriptive, analyzed and useful defect reports
- Producing clear and concise test reports and release notes
- Gaining good understanding of various technologies. There will be a requirement to learn and develop skills in new technologies, within short periods of time
- Working collaboratively with other testers and teams to ensure the spread of good practices and knowledge
- Assisting with the setting up and configuration of test environments
- Liaising with the user representative to ensure that the tests match the users requirements writing test plans
- Knowledge sharing between other testers

Qualifications:
Necessary Skills:
- Lead Test Engineer applicants will need demonstrated strong knowledge and experience in design, development and testing of mission critical systems in a multi-level security enclave.
- A solid working knowledge and understanding of computer/network security is required.
- Experience in large system-of-systems design
- Proficient in system engineering design process (IEEE12207)
- Experience in system development, test and fielding in a secure military environment
- Ability to develop mission critical digital system designs in a team environment
- Proven system engineering skills, with demonstrated Broad base of systems engineering
- Proven leadership skills
- Demonstrated successful project development and delivery history
- Working knowledge of modern software development and lifecycle models
- Successful history of design and development of mission critical systems
- Experienced designing, developing, modifying and improving software and associated software systems, primarily using C/C++/C#, JAVA, .NET technologies
- Experienced in developing functionally viable mission critical human-computer interfaces (HCI)
- Skilled in the design and implementation of databases, web portals, collaboration tools and resources
- Software Engineering or Computer Science to degree level or higher; or show technical competence and enthusiasm for the role
- Must have an ISEB qualification; or show you have read extensively around the subject of testing methods
- Demonstrable knowledge of and experience of applying advanced testing techniques including formal Exploratory testing
- Assisting with the setting up and configuration of test environments
- Liaising with the user representative to ensure that the tests match the users requirements
- Writing test plans
- Knowledge sharing between other testers
- Ability to create clear, concise and readable manual test scripts
- Ability to create re-usable test scripts that organize test artifacts in a manageable way
- Ability to research and apply new methods to improve testing quality and speed
- Knowledge of the user domain of the system that is worked on - Understanding of the problem domain and functionality of the system(s) e.g. Web/Mobile/TV/Backend systems
- Ability to track down the area of defect using de-bugging tools such as Firebug, and to analyze stack traces
- Knowledge of test automation concepts

Working knowledge of:
- Web technologies; e.g. Flash
- Advanced features of popular Web Browsers; e.g. IE/Firefox/Safari/Chrome
- Hands-on test automation with browser driven automation tools, e.g. Selenium 2/Webdriver
- Programming knowledge, ideally JavaScript or Ruby
- Advanced Windows, OSX & Linux usage
- CI environments; e.g. Hudson
- software development / test life cycle, combined with extensive experience of designing and executing test cases; scripted and unscripted

Experience:
- Required: Minimum of 5 years applied work experience in design, development and engineering of Mission Critical or Weapon systems
- Preferred: 10 years of experience in military tactical or strategic systems
Education & Experience:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics or a related field with 8 years of related experience
- Preferred: Master of Science or higher degree in engineering,

Special Requirements:
- Must be United States citizen
- Must possess a current DoD TS/SCI Clearance
- Must possess an SSBI that is current within the last 5 years
- Must able to pass a CI polygraph examination
