## Job Mission

ASML’s M&D; DUV RH & Unicom Group in Wilton CT is seeking an Optical/Physics Lead Engineer to co-lead a multi-discipline team together with the Module Mechatronics Architect. The Optical/Physics Lead Engineer and the Mechatronics Architect will define and develop an opto-mechatronic module used within ASML’s photolithography tools. These systems typically include precision mechatronics in a vacuum environment, their interaction with light, algorithms, and signal processing SW. Understanding the interaction with the rest of the module(s) and its functionality within the lithography system is of fundamental importance.

## Job Description

Key components of this position are:

Using general Physics and Optics knowledge and an understanding of the lithography / metrology equipment, this person’s responsibility may include:

* Together with the Mechatronics Architect, define the module architecture and determine optical performance (functional) tradeoffs due to physical and performance limitations.
* Interface with System optical (illumination) Architects and suppliers to determine the module specifications from higher level platform requirements.
* Decomposition of top-level system requirements into lower level module, sub-module, or component level design specifications for product or test equipment towards the engineering team;
* Deriving specifications for module, sub-module, or test equipment consistent with our manufacturing practices;
* Preparation of leading system engineer documentation (Element Performance Specifications, Element Design Specifications, Test Performance Specification; Test Analysis Reports) through review, release and change control;
* Support preparation of design reviews for the development team;
* Support the integrating of our newly designed sensor systems into ASML’s platforms;
* Supporting systems in the factory and in the field, by being able to relate observed sensor anomalies to potential system defects;
* Clearly communicating progress and status of ongoing technical activities at various abstraction levels to senior management and other stake holders;
* Understanding how the performance of the sensor system affects the performance of ASMLs equipment;
* Travel: Periodic travel to Europe. Some travel to customer sites in Europe, Asia or US can be anticipated;

## Education

* Minimum: MS in Optical Science, Optical Engineering, Physics or other engineering discipline, with an emphasis on optical systems or equivalent experience.

## Experience

* Experience in technical leadership, leading engineers across multiple disciplines to develop reliable, robust systems. Strong emphasis on technical leadership of complex designs (product hardware/software or test equipment).

## Personal skills

* Ability to think creatively to derive models / analysis to support specification derivation;
* Have strong written and oral communication skills and a commitment to achieving results on time;
* Be able to break down complex problems with limited data to come to solutions – strong critical thinking capability;
* Be willing to jump in on new issues, get to the bottom of the causes and propose practical solutions;
* Be competent in and/or have affinity with: optical design and electro-optical devices, opto-mechanical design, detection electronics, electrical and SW data processing;
* A working knowledge of MatLab and/or Labview for data collection and analysis a plus;
* Be able to interface with multidisciplinary groups and work effectively in a team and be willing to take on responsibility, follow through and keep multiple simultaneous assignments on schedule;
* Be able to quickly acquire technical knowledge from documentation and on-the-job training and be capable of thoroughly investigating technical issues (analytically and hands-on in a lab);
