Position Description: The GIS Analyst (Senior) will be required to (1) perform high-level GIS technical and analytic information services when analyzing, summarizing, and coding the georeferenced datasets and scientific data contained within information systems and databases related to public health; (2) produce static and dynamic map products using established cartographic protocols and standards; (3) process, alter, and manipulate GIS data in preparation for analysis, visualization, desktop automation, and systems integration and provide recommendations to GRASP government staff regarding use of geospatial methods/techniques and the fitness of GIS datasets for particular purposes; (4) direct, administer, or coordinate GIS technical information services related to information systems and GIS analysis projects; (5) participate in oral and written communications, as needed, to interface with the diverse and multi-disciplinary GRASP staff to obtain clarity in requirements and communicate complex GIS science and technology concepts to GRASP staff and CDC/ATSDR staff who collaborate with GRASP on various projects.


Qualifications Required: 10+ years (or 5+ years with an advanced degree) of experience with demographic and vector GIS analysis including proximity, overlay, and buffer tools; geocoding, network analysis, time-series analysis, cartography, data management, map projections, and other GIS-related fields. Extensive knowledge and experience with IMAGINE and the ESRI ArcGIS suite of GIS products and extensions including but not limited to ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Online. Experience with Quantum GIS (qgis.org), SaTScan (SatScan.org), R, and other GIS analysis, GIS data manipulation, and map production tools. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team to create thematic maps. Familiarity with software products such as Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Google (Maps, Google Earth), and GPS technology as well as Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook). Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must.

Qualifications Preferred: 10+ years (or 5+ years with an advanced degree) of experience with GIS data formats including ESRI shapefile/personal geodatabase/file data base, and Google KML/KMZ. Familiarity with cartographic concepts such as symbology, visual hierarchy and color, and typography. Experience increasing the efficiency of existing workflows and developing and/or enhancing tools for geospatial data collection and analysis related to public health. Experience with Adobe Flex and Illustrator, Google Earth, Python scripting, the ESRI Flash API and InstantAtlas is a plus. Experience supporting CDC/ATSDR or any Public Health Agency is highly desired.

Education: BS/BA in Public Health, Computer Science, Geography, or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Master of Public Health, Business Administration, or related field.
