The Defense group supports the Department of Defense (DoD) mission to keep our homeland and its citizens safe. We provide solutions to improve the Nation's defense by providing software, systems engineering, IT, training and logistics and fleet management solutions.


Part time technical writing assistance is needed to support multiple Navy research and development projects. Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as procurement specifications, technical requirements documents, design descriptions, test plans and procedures, user manuals, maintenance manuals, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a range of audiences from end users, to testers, to Navy lab management. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Integrates illustrative materials, including drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts, from a variety of sources. Conducts quality review of materials. Gathers information through research, statistical reports and interviews with technical staff. Selects or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits, illustrations, charts, or storyboards to amplify or clarify publications objectives.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in math, science or engineering and five years of relevant experience or a master's degree and three years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience: developing technical specifications, technical requirements documents, design descriptions, test procedures, test reports (MS Word), and technical progress presentations (PowerPoint)
  • Public Trust clearance
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Self starter with ability to work independently, andcommunicate effectively and professionally via email and phone
  • Ability to develop content given a template, several examples, and guidance from subject matter experts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel and a drawing program such a MS Visio.
  • Import, conversion and placement of text and graphics from multiple formats (including PDF, JPEG, and PNG)
