Required Qualifications and Education:

  • Master’s degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and access in higher education
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Director or Associate Director, managing a staff, demonstrated experience in developing and managing budgets of $200,000 or more
  • Experience with veteran populations
  • Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse population and vast knowledge of grant writing, administration and management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • Experience or training in advising/counseling at the higher education level with a working understanding of the financial aid and college admission process
  • Experience in teaching workshops and managing a program in a multi-cultural setting
  • Familiar and active with Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP) organizations

Responsibilities – Essential Functions: 

  • Oversee staff who are assigned to work on Veterans Upward Bound program grants, supervise and evaluate staff performance
  • Write, manage and administer grants
  • Assist with all facets of the program budget
  • Provide ongoing direction and evaluation of all program activities and implementation
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with community agencies who serve veterans in the four counties the grant serves, Grand Valley State University and related community agencies/businesses
  • Assist with the completion of academic plans for participants
  • Monitor participant academic progress and success in post-secondary enrollment and completion

Salary:  $55,000 - $61,000
