Description

This Coordinator, Disability Services is responsible for the implementation of accommodations for registered students with a disability to ensure equal access and promote student success of campus life including programs, services, events, and activities.

DUTIES

  1. Develops and sends accommodation letters to faculty
  2. Explores and coordinates reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities
  3. Orders or creates alternative texts and materials for accessibility
  4. Provides training to faculty, staff and students on assistive technology
  5. Assists with conducting intake interviews with new students
  6. Initiates referrals for appropriate evaluations and interventions


MARGINAL DUTIES

  1. Oversees daily office functioning in absence of leadership
  2. Serves on campus based work groups and committees
  3. Coordinates and proctors exams as needed
  4. Researches information/trends as requested
  5. Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Amendments of 2008, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,5th edition (DSM-V)
  • Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Mastery of MS Office programs

 

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills (written, oral, listening, interpersonal)
  • Good organizational & prioritizing skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Flexibility to meet priority deadlines and unexpected events

 

Abilities:

  • Ability to exhibit a detail oriented focus and is committed to a high level of service to students


WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment

Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about sitting (80%) walking (10%), standing (10%), etc.

Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
