What Youll Do:

We are looking for a high-energy, driven Business Development Specialist with sound business acumen, strong technical aptitude and natural sales instincts to support the growth of long-term partnerships with like-minded organizations that engage students, parents and teachers around critical topic areas.

Specifically, as our Business Development Specialist, you will support the proactive cultivation of strategic relationships with Foundations, Non-Profits, Fortune 500 Companies, and Associations that share Discovery Educations mission to advance youth achievement. Youll work on our CEP Business Development Team and support building our partner pipeline by owning proactive research to generate quantifiable leads and connections among like-minded organizations looking to develop or scale education initiatives.

The ideal candidate for this role has a sales mindset and is eager to collaborate with colleagues to engage in building highly successful and prominent digital curricular resources sponsored by corporate and non-profit partners. You have proven development skills and are ready to work with a keen sense of urgency to be successful. You are excited by strategic philanthropy and get how to activate communications strategies that cultivate, nurture and develop relationships with potential partner organizations, identifying individuals within organization with decision-making responsibility. You have a knack for spotting potential areas of collaboration and the ability to understand industry trends, current events, and make relevant connections that may impact our business.

If youre our ideal candidate, you have strong written communication skills, are able to deliver concise, engaging messaging and, most importantly, thrive in a high-energy, purpose-driven sales environment and are eager to advance in our organization by demonstrating your ability to be a tenacious self-starter every day.

Requirements:

  • Mission-Driven: Passionate about Discovery Education's vision to transform teaching and learning, experience in education or ed-tech industry a plus
  • Professional Experience:Minimum 1 - 2 years professional experience, ideally in a business development, sales, marketing,fundraising or partnerships role. A cool, calm and collected approach to problem solving
  • Education: Bachelors Degree required in business, marketing, communications, or another related field
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with many employees, an effective listener to understand the many variables associated with project management and communicate priorities with a positive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Collaborative: Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Team builder, not turf builder
  • Hustle: The courage and confidence to work hard and with passion; committed to getting the job done; sustain effort in the face of adversity. Maintain consistency and focus over time with a positive never give up attitude
  • Self-Motivation and Self-Starter: The ability to do what needs to be done without being micromanaged; ability to manage/prioritize multiple tasks, proactively manage numerous projects, and prioritize competing timelines; demonstrate a problem solving/ solution-oriented approach
  • Learning Orientation: Always willing to learn something new, not rigid in beliefs or expectations
  • Sense of Humor: Because we all need to laugh sometimes
