Job Details

The position will support a wide range of ongoing and future projects led by MB&G’s Environmental Services Group. This announcement is for two or more hourly/seasonal positions working on an on-call basis. Hourly/seasonal positions may be converted to salaried/permanent depending on workload and job performance. The successful candidates will support various field and office-based projects focused on wetlands, water quality, fisheries, wildlife, botany, construction inspection, and associated environmental permitting. The projects are typically distributed throughout Oregon and Washington and managed from our headquarters in Portland, OR.


Tasks completed by a successful candidate may include:

  • water quality monitoring (streams or reservoirs)
  • fish salvage and presence/absence monitoring
  • wetland delineations
  • wildlife habitat assessments
  • wetland and biology mitigation site monitoring and maintenance prescriptions
  • plant surveys
  • erosion and sediment control inspections
  • preparation of technical reports and environmental permit applications
  • data management


Work Environment

These positions will require working effectively in the field and in an office environment. Overnight travel may be required to project sites. The successful candidate will complete fieldwork and subsequent reporting in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Fieldwork will be performed in all weather conditions, perhaps in rough terrain, in a variety of the following settings: along steep banks of rivers and streams, in-water wading/snorkeling/electrofishing, relatively remote areas, operating small watercraft, construction sites around heavy machinery and power generation project sites (hydroelectric or wind).

Regular overnight travel will be required, particularly during the field season (lodging and meals to be provided while traveling). The position will require extensive computer use, physical ability to traverse rough terrain, and the ability to lift/ carry up to 40 pounds. 


To succeed as an MB&G biologist, you should have the following skills and experiences:

  • B.S. in aquatic or wildlife science/biology, ecology, zoology, environmental science, or a natural-resource-related field
  • 2–3 years fieldwork experience in applied science/biology, water quality sampling, fisheries, wildlife management, habitat assessment/restoration, and/or freshwater or upland ecology desired.
  • Analysis of technical data using spreadsheet, database, statistical, graphics, and other computer program tools is desired
  • Familiarity with electronic field mapping and data collection equipment including Trimble data recorders and ArcPad software desired
  • Experience in preparing biological resource reports desired
  • Proven experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting on collected field data
  • Ability to travel for extended periods
  • Ability to work long hours in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, team-oriented individual
