Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of assigned therapeutic area(s), clinical trial data, the literature and associated therapeutic conditions.
  • Provide leadership to cross-functional publication strategy and core teams on the development of medical publications strategy and plans.
  • Ensure execution of publication plan is consistent with and brand strategy.
  • Accountable for timely delivery of high quality, message-focused medico-scientific communications to target audiences.
  • Establish and leverage relationships with external expert, investigators, thought leaders, patient advocates and other healthcare experts, to drive high quality medico-scientific communications activities.
  • Develop and maintain general or special issues publication advisory boards, as needed, for assigned therapeutic areas, including recruitment of advisors, meeting planning and execution, content development, and documentation of action items.
  • Brief and provide feedback to medical communications agencies/contract freelancers following review of medicoscientific communications from external sources
  • Effectively integrate medical communications agencies/contract freelancers as part of the extended team for medico-scientific communications activities; manage agency/contract freelancers effectively for efficient delivery of set deliverables.
  • Review protocol proposals for independent clinical studies and participate/provide feedback to internal protocol review teams
  • Acquire and maintain thorough understanding of industry and publications standards with respect to quality, authorship and appropriateness of medico-scientific communications
  • Contribute to and support all aspects of key medical/scientific communications development/management to ensure comprehensive and successful delivery of all projects/publications, and work collaboratively to achieve a level of excellence across teams internally and externally.



Position Requirements:


  • Education Required:  A Masters degree is acceptable with extensive relevant experience or PhD/Pharm D is preferable.
  • Experience Required:  7-10 years prior experience working within the pharmaceutical industry or related fields
  • Experience Preferred:  Experience within relevant therapeutic areas (CNS, Respiratory, Migraine & Headache) is preferred.  Ideally, leadership experience is developing strategy and executing publication plans, and in building professional external expert networks.
  • Functional Knowledge: 
  • Ability to critically analyze data, literature and medical communications.
  • Able to acquire relevant information from a variety of sources, e.g. literature searches and be able to maintain accurate records of literature sources
  • An established track record of effective high quality medical communications outputs (e.g. Manuscripts, poster presentations, slide presentations).
  • Excellent writing, reviewing and editing skills with a track record of attention to detail.
