Description

The Assistant Director, Graduate Studies oversees the graduate student support services for a college. The position provides assistance to graduate students, developing and implementing college-level recruitment and retention efforts related to enhancing the graduate community, and assisting in managing daily operations and participating in administrative processes across campus. The position serves as first point of contact for graduate students and provides information regarding various programs options within a college. Provides student support by moving them through the various stages of the graduate admissions process.

DUTIES

  1. Develops and generates student leads for graduate programs through various venues and provides counseling on program benefits
  2. Advises, counsels and assists graduate students with program registration and application process
  3. Plans, coordinates and conducts recruitment programs for prospective students in consultation and collaboration with graduate program leadership
  4. Participates in the admission and application process by conducting preliminary interviews, processing applications with supporting materials monitoring progress. Liaises with the University central graduate admissions office and graduate program leadership on matters of recruitment, and graduate admissions
  5. Supports the graduate leadership in development and implementation of enforcing policies, processes and procedures related to graduate studies
  6. Participates in graduate program meetings providing information as needed to the College leadership

  4. Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge:

  1. Knowledge of computer systems/software such as Microsoft Office, including CRM
  2. Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

 

Skills:

  1. Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  2. Interpersonal and communication skills
  3. Excellent telephone etiquette

 

Abilities:

  1. Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  2. Ability to work beyond normal working hours including nights and weekends


WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment

Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment but may be required to attend events hosted outdoors and indoors which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.

Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, sitting etc

Position involves lifting 2%, carrying 5%, and speaking 30%.

Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks
