Description
The 1st Year Experience and Instruction Librarian plans and executes the library's first year experience programs; collaborates with faculty and staff leading first-year programs; designs, promotes, and implements assessment of instruction and outreach programs for first year students. Provides reference and information services.

DUTIES

  • Plans, reviews and implements the library's first year experience initiatives, and provides curriculum-integrated instructional sessions primarily to first year students
  • Develops and implements innovative programming and helps to maintain current innovative technology to engage first-year communities in the library
  • Provides reference research assistance in person and through electronic means to a diverse clientele including students, faculty, and other affiliated patrons
  • Collaborates with key partners within academic programs that support the first-year experience
  • Serves as a subject librarian and faculty liaison, performing collection development through review, selection and marketing of library resources
  • Creates and maintains various educational materials as part of the Instruction team and with other Reference librarians

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of online and/or in-library instruction
  • Knowledge of web-based course ware, such as Blackboard
  • Knowledge of trends, issues, and accepted practices relevant to the position

Skills:

  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Abilities:

  • Ability to assist students and faculty in meeting their research needs through a wide range of information sources
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community

WORK LOCATION AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Primary Work Location: Works in an office environment 6 to 8 hours.

Physical Demands: Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements. Position is physically comfortable; individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. (10% standing at Instruction Podium when delivering instruction; reference service, 5% Instruction, library tours, reference services)
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.

Qualifications
Required Education: Advanced/master's degree in Library Science
Required Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of job-related experience
License/Certification: None Required
